WASHINGTON - American University junior Savannah Rennels (Rector, Pa./Latrobe Area/Bucknell) scored the first goal of the game and Anabel Jimenez (Kensington, Md./Bullis) the game winner to help AU knock off Bucknell by a goal, 2-1.
For Rennels the goal was her 13th of the season and her first against Bucknell, a team she played for for two years before transferring. The 13 goals in one year is the fifth best single season in AU history. Rennels was assisted on the goal by sophomore Maha Elnabawi (Herndon, Va./Oakton) and freshman Simone Konig (Gartringen, Germany/School of Economics in Boblingen).For Konig it was her 11th assist of the season, and adds to the AU single season assist record. The original mark was nine held by Liz Pike, but Konig broke it last Thursday in the win over Howard.
Jimenez scored the winner at 38:57 off of an assist from Amy Muller (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side). It was the sixth goal of the season for Jimenez and Muller's first assist of the year. The Eagles outshot Bucknell by nine, 15-4.
Jen Liese (Rushland, Pa./Council Rock) faced 4 shots and picked up two saves in the match. Bucknell goalie Laurie Purse registered six saves for the Bison.
American (7-7-2/3-1-1) will play at Patriot League rival Lafayette on October 29 at 7:00 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for October 11th, but bad weather forced the postponement.
