Washington, D.C. -- The American women's soccer team lost, 2-1, to visiting Binghamton University today in overtime. Freshman Maha Elnabawi (Herndon, Va./Oakton) scored her third goal on the season at 56:00 into the game on an assist from senior Diane Wootton (Damascus, Md./Middle Tennessee State).
The Bearcats outshot the Eagles 14-11 in the contest. Freshman Fedjah Laraque (East Rockaway, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) led American in shot attempts with three total shots.
Binghamton scored late in the second half when junior midfielder Amanda Norman bent a corner kick into the goalmouth. In sudden death overtime, freshman forward Tatiana Mathelier scored on a breakaway.
The Eagles move to 4-2-0 overall, 2-0-0 in the Patriot League. They will play at Towson this Wednesday, Oct. 3 at 4:00 p.m. American's next home game will be on Saturday, Oct. 6, when they play host to Patriot League opponent Lafayette at 1:00 p.m.
