American Struggles Against Holy Cross, Falls 4-1

Worcester, Mass. -- American women's soccer faced a difficult Patriot League opponent in Holy Cross this afternoon as the Eagles fell, 4-1, in their fifth league match of the season. Senior Katie Moore (Silver Spring, Md./Good Counsel) scored the Eagles only goal midway through the second half.

The Crusaders got on the board first at 10:55 into the game when Kate O'Shaughnessy found the back of the net on an assist from Laura McSharry. The score was 1-0 in favor of Holy Cross at halftime and the Crusaders made it 2-0 at 54:10 when O'Shaughnessy scored her second goal of the day.

Moore scored at 71:06 on an assist from sophomore Anabel Jimenez (Kensington, Md./Bullis) to make the socre 2-1, but the Crusaders answered quickly with a score by Lee Hummer at 77:43 and another by Lynette Zickl at 87:00 to put the game out of reach for American.

The Eagles had nine shots to 16 by the Crusaders. Freshman goalkeeper Jen Liese (Rushland, Pa./Council Rock) had two saves on the day.

The loss today brings the Eagles to 6-5-2 overall, 3-2-0 in the Patriot League. American plays at home next Saturday, Oct. 27, in their sixth Patriot League match of the season versus Colgate at 1:00 p.m. on Reeves Field.
