WASHINGTON, D.C. - Anabel Jimenez scored her first goal of the season with 4:43 to play in regulation as American rallied from a pair of one-goal deficits to tie Columbia, 2-2, in double overtime in front of 213 fans at Reeves Field today.
Columbia (2-3-2 ) coming off a 2-2 tie at Georgetown two days ago, got on the board early when Freshman midfielder Erica Woda took a pass from Cori Cassens at 7:24 into the game and sent a 20-yard blast into the left side of the net to give the Lions a 1-0 lead. American (1-5-2), which outshot the Lions, 27-13, including 12-3 in the first half, made it level after junior forward Diane Wootton placed a pretty 8-yard header in the upper right corner from a serve by Lori Donato at 26:39. It was Wootton's team-leading four goal of the season.
After Columbia took the lead again on a goal by Merideth Corkery at 67:08, American again found an answer as Jimenez sent a low driving shot behind Lions' goalkeeper Janine Lerardi, who made six saves. Junior goalkeeper Jackie Sierodzinski made five saves for the Eagles. AU travels to Richmond on Tuesday, Sept.26 at 7:00 PM to face the Spiders while Columbia, will travel to Hofstra on Wednesday, September 27 for their game, which is scheduled to start at 4:30 PM.
