UMBC Tops American, 2-0, In Women's Soccer

WASHINGTON, D.C. - UMBC Sophomore goalie Nicole Jantz posted a shutout as the Retrievers tallied goals in both halves to top American, 2-0, before 191 fans at Reeves Field today.

UMBC (2-6), outshot AU, 14-10. The Retrievers got on the board at the 14:10 mark of the first half when sophomore midfielder Caitlin Kinsella collected a chip in the box from Jennifer Wilhelm turned a blasted a 8-yard shot just inside the far right post. UMBC got their second tally just after halftime when Senior midfielder Beth Quintavelie struck a 12-yard volley off an AU player's leg and into the net from a corner kick by Erin Lesh at 51:09 Jantz made five saves enroute to the shutout. American (1-5-1, 0-2-0 CAA), in the midst of a five-game home stand, had trouble generating quality scoring chances for good protions of the game. This forced Junior goalkeeper Jackie Sierodzinski to make seven saves. AU will host Columbia on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 12:00. While UMBC will host Sacred Heart on September 24th.
