William & Mary Defeats American, 1-0

WILLIAMBURG, Va. - Senior defender Kim Newell (Woodbridge, VA) and junior Jordan Krieger (Park City, UT) tallied goals leading the No. 22 William & Mary women's soccer team to its fifth straight victory defeating American University, 2-0, Thursday night at Busch Field.

The Tribe improved to 12-4 overall and 6-1 in the Colonial Athletic Association, while the Eagles lost their fifth in a row, fell to 2-11-2 and 1-5 in conference play.

Newell, playing in her final W&M match at home, gave the Tribe the game-winner at 18:17, connecting on her third penalty kick of the season. An American foul in the penalty area resulted in the free kick.

W&M increased its lead when Krieger kicked-in a rebound for her 11th goal of the season from sophomore Lara Pawlow (Annandale, VA) at 27:24.

Tribe goalie Courtney Owen (Richmond, VA) made one save and tallied her fifth shutout of the season. American goalie Jackie Sierodzinski made 12 saves and faced 18 William & Mary shots.

William & Mary increased its all-time record over the Eagles to 9-0 and improved their record at Busch Field to 33-0-1 since 1992. The Green & Gold round out the schedule at Maryland this Sunday, Oct. 22 and at James Madison next Friday, Oct. 27.
