Penn Defeats American, 1-0

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Penn women's soccer team narrowly defeated American this afternoon, 1-0. After outshooting the Eagles 10-2 in the first half, the Quakers finally managed to put one away in the 80th minute of play for their sixth win of the season.

Despite the close score of the game, Penn outshot American 21-2 and prevented the Eagles from shooting at all in the second half. Senior midfielder Kelli Toland (Philadelphia, PA) received a through ball from defender Ashley Kjar (Sandy, Utah) and broke through the American defense for a one-on-one with the goalie. She nailed the ball into the left side of the net for the game-winner. Toland now leads the Quakers with 11 points on the season.

The Quakers will look to even their Ivy League record as they take on Columbia on Rhodes Field on Saturday, October 14 at Noon.
