Matt Rogers of American University men's basketball has been named to the Lou Henson Award 'Early-Season'
Watch List, College Insider Inc. announced on Tuesday. The Lou Henson Award is presented annually to the top player in mid-major college basketball.
Rogers, the 2024 Patriot League Preseason Player of the Year, is leading the Eagles with 14.4 points per game so far this season. His 4.8 rebounds per game rank second, and he's shooting 46.8 percent from the field. Rogers was an All-Patriot League First Team pick as a senior and a Second Team selection as a junior. Last season, he became the 15th player in program history to reach 1,000 points and 500 rebounds. He currently ranks 21st all-time in program history with 1,345 points, and is also 21st with 591 career rebounds.
On November 12 at Siena, Rogers led all players with 26 points on 11-of-22 shooting from the field. He scored 15 points at No. 10/11 North Carolina on Nov. 15, and 17 at High Point on Nov. 18.

Lou Henson is a former Illinois and New Mexico State head coach who won 775 games in 41 seasons.
Henson is the winningest coach in Illinois basketball history with 423 victories. During his 21 seasons (1975-1996), Henson led the Fighting Illini to 16 postseason appearances, including 12 NCAA tournaments and a Final Four appearance in 1989.
Henson, who is also the all-time winningest coach in New Mexico State history with 289 victories, is one of only 11 coaches to take two different schools to the NCAA Final Four. His teams have made 19 NCAA appearances and four NIT appearances.
