WASHINGTON - Setter Christina Nash (Princeton, Fla./Coral Reef) earned her first Patriot League Baden Rookie of the Week award for her playmaking last week in wins over UMES and Navy, league officials announced today. The Princeton, Fla. native averaged 8.86 assists and .71 blocks per game as AU women's volleyball improved to 14-8 overall and 7-1 in the Patriot League.
In the team's dominating win over UMES, Nash had 22 assists, two service aces and three block assists. Against Navy, Nash had 40 sets as the Eagles hit .284 against the PL's second best defensive team.
In PL play, Nash is averaging nine assists per game, which puts her at fifth in the league. She is also fifth in PL-only play in blocks with .96 per game.
This is the second time this year an American freshman has earned the Baden Rookie of the Week with Rubena Sukaj (Tirana, Albania/Asim Vokshi) claiming it on Sept. 6.
In league-only matches, American leads in team hitting percentage, kills, assists, blocks and service aces per game. Individually, Cutrina Biddulph (Reseda, Calif./Granada Hills) is dominating the league in hitting percentage with a .498.
The Eagles host non-conference opponent UMBC tomorrow night in Bender Arena at 7:00 p.m. before going on the road this weekend for matches against Colgate and Bucknell.
