WASHINGTON - A night before the Eagles look for revenge against the Army Black Knights, American University first had to take care of business against Holy Cross. They did, hitting .464 led by Elizabeth Maloney's (Toronto, Ontario/Richview C.I.) 15 kills en route to a 3-0 sweep of the Crusaders in Bender Arena Friday night.
AU was in control each game going 30-17, 30-20 and 30-16 as they extended their winning streak to nine matches and their record to 21-8 and 12-1 in the Patriot League.
The Eagles took just 1:07 to dismantle the visitors as they hit .405, .424 and a whopping .593 in the decisive game. Christina Nash (Princeton, Fla./Coral Reef) had a three game career-high of 41 assists setting up American's offense, which had also registered a three game season-high of 51 assists.
Everyone seemed to be on the attack for American as Rubena Sukaj (Tirana, Albania/Asim Vokshi) added 15 kills for a .407 hitting percentage and Cutrina Biddulph (Reseda, Calif./Granada Hills) slammed 11 kills with four block assists. When they were not putting points on the board for AU, Carly Barisich (Clarksville, Md./River Hill) stepped in in the middle and crushed eight kills and contributing four block assists.
Tonight almost served as a warm up for tomorrow's match as the Eagles look to avenge the 3-0 loss to Army from earlier in the season that snapped their four year PL winning streak. Join the Eagles at 7 p.m. in Bender Arena for the final regular season home game for 2005 seniors Biddulph and Jennifer Cosco (Montvale, N.J./Pascack Hills).
