Official Patriot League Release

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Aleksandra Kazala was selected for the third straight season as the Patriot League Player of the Year, the league office announced Tuesday.

She was joined as a first team All-Patriot League selection by teammate Helena Elbaek. Eagles Kennedy Etheridge and Loren McKenzie earned second-team honors in the balloting by the league's nine head coaches, who were not allowed to vote for their own players.

Kazala, a senior outside hitter from Debica, Poland, became only the third player in PL history and the third Eagle to win the award three times. Karla Kucerkova (2001, 2002, 2003) and Rubena Sukaj (2006, 2007, 2008) are the other two.

She made the All-PL first team for the third time, becoming the fifth Eagle to be on the first team that many times.

Elbaek, a sophomore opposite from Ikast, Denmark, was a second-team pick a year ago. She is second on the Eagles in kills behind Kazala and is 10th in the PL in kills.

Etheridge, a senior setter from Overland Park, Kan., makes an All-PL team for the third time in her career. She was also a second-team selection last season after making first team in 2016.

McKenzie, a senior middle blocker from Baldwin, N.Y., was a first-team pick in 2016, but played in only one set last season due to an injury.

American's four selections to All-PL teams were the most by any school. Navy had three, Colgate, Lehigh and Loyola Maryland each had two and Army West Point earned one all-league spot.

Loyola Maryland won three major awards – the first in the Greyhounds' time in the PL. Katie Forsythe won both Freshman and Libero of the Year, while Alija Pittenger was Coach of the Year. Navy's Patricia Mattingly was Setter of the Year for the third time.
