CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Leading the American University offense to a pair of vital Patriot League volleyball wins has earned Aleksandra Kazala the selection as the PL Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Kazala, a senior outside hitter from Debica, Poland, had 18 kills to lead the Eagles in a three-set sweep at second-place Navy on Friday. Nine of her 18 kills came in a second set that saw the Eagles score a 25-14 win over the Mids.
On Saturday, Kazala led AU with 16 kills as the Eagles survived a five-set marathon at Loyola Maryland. She also had a double-double against the Greyhounds, adding 18 digs to post her ninth of the season and the 34th of her career.
She leads the Eagles and is second in the PL with a 3.51 kills-per-set average. She recently became only the third player in AU history to combine 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in her career.
The PL Player of the Week award is Kazala's second of the season and the eighth of her career. Already the two-time PL Player of the Year, Kazala was the pick of the league as the Preseason Player of the Year for 2018.
American travels to Colgate on Friday and Holy Cross on Saturday before returning to Bender Arena on Tuesday, Nov. 6 to play host to Lehigh at 7 p.m.
Should the Eagles win the regular-season in volleyball, they would host the Patriot League Tournament on Nov. 17 and 18 at Bender Arena.
