Kazala Earns Third PL Player of the Week Honor

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – A dominant weekend has lifted Aleksandra Kazala to Patriot League Player of the Week honors, the league office announced Monday.

Kazala, a junior outside hitter from Debica, Poland, earned her third weekly award of the season and the sixth of her career. She joins Kennedy Etheridge, Vela McBride and Helena Elbaek as Eagles who have won PL weekly awards this season.

Kazala hit .474 for the week in sweeps over Colgate and Bucknell. She had 35 kills in six matches on Friday and Sunday, including nine in the decisive third set over the Raiders. She leads the PL and is eighth in the nation in kills per set at 4.70.

Colgate outside Alli Lowe earned her fourth consecutive PL Rookie of the Week honor, finishing the week with 22 total kills.

American is on a 16-match winning streak and ended the regular season with a 24-7 overall record and a 15-1 record in league play.

The Eagles will host the Patriot League Tournament this weekend at Bender Arena.

On Saturday, American will host fourth-seeded Lehigh in the 2 p.m. semifinal, with No. 2 Navy taking on No. 3 Army West Point in the other semifinal at 5 p.m.

The championship match will be Sunday at 3 p.m. The winner of the tournament earns the Patriot League's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Tickets for the Patriot League Tournament are available at the Bender Arena Box office. General admission seats are $8 for adults and $5 for children. Students of the four participating schools will be admitted free with a valid student ID from their institution.
