WASHINGTON – Aleksandra Kazala had 17 kills and Shannon Webb tied a season-high with 13 to lift American University to a 25-14, 25-10, 25-22 win over Bucknell in the Patriot League regular-season volleyball finale Sunday at Bender Arena.
The Eagles, who have won 16 straight matches, finished the regular season at 24-7 overall and in first place in the PL with a 15-1 record in league matches. American, the top seed, will host the Patriot League Tournament next Saturday and Sunday.
Bucknell fell to 14-14 overall and 8-8 in the league, finishing sixth in the standings.
Kazala hit .483 in the match, while Webb had 13 kills and no errors in 20 attempts to hit .650. Those two players led the Eagles with eight digs each, with Webb finishing with two blocks. Kennedy Etheridge had 45 assists for the Eagles.
Before the match, the Eagles paid tribute to two senior players, each of whom had strong matches. Erin Swartz had a season-best eight kills, including six in the third set, while Hoakalei Dawson finished with five kills and four digs.
Stefanie Alpert led the Bison offensively with eight kills.
American will face Lehigh at 2 p.m. on Saturday in the first semifinal of the Patriot League Tournament. Navy, which earned the No. 2 seed on Sunday with a five-set win over Army West Point, will face the Black Knights again in the other semifinal at 5 p.m.
The PL Championship Match will be played at Bender Arena on Sunday at 3 p.m.
