Kazala's Dominant Final Set Lifts @AU_Volleyball

AU celebrates after winning a point

WASHINGTON – Aleksandra Kazala had nine of her match-high 18 kills in the third set as American won its 15th straight match in a 25-16, 25-20, 25-12 sweep over Colgate in a Patriot League volleyball match Friday at Bender Arena.

The Eagles improved to 23-7 overall and 14-1 in the Patriot League. American had already clinched the top seed and home-court advantage for next weekend's PL Tournament, with semifinals on Saturday and the championship on Sunday.

The Raiders, who had a six-match winning streak ended, fell to 17-10 overall and 8-7 in the league. The loss ended Colgate's chance of reaching the PL Tournament.

AU will play Lehigh (18-12, 9-7) in the opening semifinal on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 2 p.m., with Army West Point and Navy meeting in the other semifinal at 5 p.m.

Kazala's 18 kills marked the 26th time this season she's hit double figures. Helena Elbaek added nine kills and four blocks for the Eagles, who got five blocks from Cheyenne Orsi.

Kristen Largay had 11 digs, setter Kennedy Etheridge had 32 assists and Shannon Webb posted five service aces, tying for the most by an AU player this season.

Alli Lowe had nine kills and Taylor Flaherty added seven for Colgate, which was held to just 25 kills and 15 errors on offense.

American finishes the regular season on Sunday when it hosts Bucknell at 2 p.m. The match will be the annual Senior Day event, when AU will honor its two senior players.

Tickets for all AU home volleyball matches are available at the Bender Arena Box Office. General admission seats are $8 for adults and $5 for children. AU students are admitted free with a valid student ID.
