WASHINGTON – Aleksandra Kazala had a double-double with 18 kills and 10 digs, while Cheyenne Orsi finished with 10 kills and nine blocks to lift American University to a four-set victory over Army West Point on Friday in a battle of Patriot League volleyball leaders at Bender Arena.
The Eagles won the first set 27-25, but the Black Knights took the second, 25-22. AU earned its 11th straight victory by sweeping the final two sets, 25-18 and 25-23.
American is now 19-7 overall and in first place in the PL with a 10-1 record. Army fell to 15-9 overall and 8-3 in the league, dropping into third place. Navy is in second at 9-2 with a 3-0 victory at home over Holy Cross on Friday night.
Helena Elbaek had 10 kills for the Eagles, who got 13 digs from Kristen Largay and three service aces from Shannon Webb. Vela McBride had nine kills and four blocks for the Eagles, who finished with 13 as a team.
The double-double was the 16th of the season for Kazala. Setter Kennedy Etheridge had 44 assists, nine digs and five blocks for AU.
Vanessa Wesley and Jaden Pickell had 15 kills apiece for the Black Knights, with Amber Clay finishing with 11.
American is home again on Saturday afternoon in a 2 p.m. matinee with Holy Cross.
