Kazala Leads Three Eagles in Double Figures in Big Win

WASHINGTON – Aleksandra Kazala finished with 18 kills to lead three Eagles in double figures as American earned a 25-15, 25-23, 25-16 volleyball sweep over Lehigh in a key matchup of top teams in the Patriot League on Friday.

The win was American's fourth straight and sixth in their last seven matches, improving the Eagles' record to 12-7 overall. The Mountain Hawks had an eight-match winning streak snapped in falling to 13-6.

American and Lehigh now sit in second place in the Patriot League standings at 4-1, one game behind first-place Navy. The Midshipmen won at home Friday against Lafayette.

Kazala finished with her 12th double-double of the season, adding a dozen digs and two blocks to her night. She is now just 14 kills away from becoming the 13th Eagle in history to earn 1,000 kills in her career.

Shannon Webb had 12 kills and only one attack error for AU, also getting three blocks. Freshman Helena Elbaek had 11 kills and one error with a pair of blocks.

Libero Kristen Largay had 14 digs for AU, while Aleksandra Sochacka finished with 10. Kennedy Etheridge had 25 assists for the Eagles.

Ana Spangenberg led Lehigh with 12 kills, with Emily Develle finishing with 15 digs.

American continues its stretch of home games on Saturday when it hosts Lafayette at 4 p.m.
