WASHINGTON – Five members of the American University volleyball team each celebrated major milestones in their lives recently, receiving their degrees from AU.
With the graduation of these five individuals, the Eagles say goodbye one of the most accomplished classes in program history.
Over the past four seasons, the Eagles have compiled a combined record of 109-27 overall and a 64-6 mark against Patriot League opponents, winning regular-season and league championships in each of the past three seasons. Fifth-year senior Monika Smidova was also a part of the 2011 PL Championship team that posted a 23-11 overall record and 15-1 mark against league opponents.
Additionally, this class was integral to the Eagles' Sweet 16 run in 2013, as AU posted its first-ever NCAA Tournament victories, defeating both Georgia and Duke. In 2015, the Eagles added another NCAA win over a nationally ranked opponent, downing Kentucky in straight sets.
"We are honored to have this fine class of seniors graduate as one of our most productive groups in the history of this program," said American head coach Barry Goldberg. "Over their time here, we have had special moments such as our first NCAA Tournament victories, competing in the Sweet 16, traveling to Hawaii and continuing our perpetual training camps at the beach.
"All of these players left a lasting mark on American University Volleyball and we congratulate them on their success in earning their degrees."
