WASHINGTON – The American University volleyball team looks to solidify its hold on first place in the Patriot League standings, as it travels north for its final road matches of the regular season.

The Eagles will face Holy Cross on Friday evening at 7:00 before playing at second-place Army West Point Saturday at 5 p.m.

American enters the weekend with a 20-6 overall record and perfect 11-0 mark in league action. The Eagles currently have a one-match lead over Army West Point in the league standings.

AU is coming off a 3-1 home victory over Navy on Tuesday evening. Although the Mids dealt American its first PL set loss at Bender Arena in nearly two years, the Eagles came back to reach the 20-win mark for the sixth straight season, and the 17th time in the past 18 years.

Senior Allison Cappellino registered 13 kills against Navy and freshman Aleksandra Kazala added a career-best 13 kills and 14 digs as American became the first team to clinch a spot in this year's PL Tournament.

For the season, Cappellino leads American with 3.26 kills per set, while classmate Kristyna Lindovska adds 2.40 kills per set. Smidova averages 9.74 assists and 3.05 digs per set and sophomore libero Hoakalei Dawson averages a team-high 3.63 digs per set.

Holy Cross holds a 5-18 overall record and 2-8 mark in the Patriot League. In their last match, the Crusaders dropped a 3-0 decision to Colgate.

Junior Mandy Sifferlen leads the Patriot League with 3.91 kills per set, while freshman Lynsey Petersen adds 2.75 kills per set for Holy Cross. Sophomore M.C. Magner leads the Crusaders with 4.11 digs per set, ranking third in the league.

Army West Point owns a 17-6 overall record and 9-1 mark in the Patriot League, with its only league loss coming to American. The Black Knights, who host Loyola Maryland on Friday evening, defeated Colgate, 3-1, in their last match.

Sophomore Carolyn Bockrath averages 2.88 kills per set to lead Army West Point, hitting a league-best .433, while senior Nicole Perri adds 2.71 kills per set. Senior Vanessa Edwards leads the Patriot League with 10.51 assists per set and sophomore libero Shannel Chong averages a league-high 4.55 digs per set.
