CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – American University volleyball player Monika Smidova has been recognized as the Molten Patriot League Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Smidova, a senior setter from Plzen, Czech Republic, led the Eagles to a 2-1 record last week, including a pair of three-set victories in Patriot League action.
Smidova began the week with a season-high 54 assists and added 16 digs in a tough five-set loss to George Washington in non-conference action.
Meanwhile, Smidova was stellar in wins for American over Bucknell and Lafayette.
Against the Bison, Smidova finished just shy of a triple-double, recording 32 assists, 15 digs and nine kills. She followed that performance with 23 assists, 11 digs and seven kills in abbreviated action versus the Leopards.
In the two Patriot League matches, Smidova averaged 9.17 assists, 4.33 digs and 2.67 kills per set, hitting .727 with 16 kills and no errors on 22 attempts.
The award is the sixth of Smidova's career and her first this season.
