WASHINGTON – The American University volleyball team concludes its current three-match homestand on Tuesday, as it hosts Navy in a 7 p.m. Patriot League contest.
American enters the match with a 19-6 overall record and a 10-0 mark in the league. The Eagles earned a pair of straight-set victories over Bucknell and Lafayette last weekend.
Against Bucknell, senior Allison Cappellino recorded a match-high 13 kills, while senior setter Monika Smidova finished just shy of a triple-double, registering 32 assists, a match-high 15 digs and nine kills on 13 attempts.
Cappellino led American again versus Lafayette, finishing with nine kills, while sophomore middle blocker Loren McKenzie added a career-high nine kills and six blocks.
For the season, Cappellino leads American with 3.26 kills per set, while classmate Kristyna Lindovska adds 2.41 kills per set. Smidova averages 9.78 assists and 3.17 digs per set and sophomore libero Hoakalei Dawson averages a team-high 3.64 digs per set.
Navy comes into this week's match with a 6-17 overall record and a 4-6 ledger in the Patriot League. The Midshipmen have won four straight matches, including victories over Lehigh (3-1) and Bucknell (3-2) last weekend.
Sophomore Dorothy Murray averages 2.62 kills per set to lead the Mids, while sophomore Maggie Phillips adds 2.29 kills per set. Freshman libero Sydney Shearn is the team leader in digs, averaging 3.63 per set.
