WASHINGTON - After Lafayette defeated Lehigh on Saturday night the Patriot League was forced to have a coin flip to decide which of three teams would secure the final two spots in the 2006 PL Tournament.
After the first four tie breakers were unable to break the tie, the Eagles needed a bit of luck in the form of a coin flip to earn a spot in the four-team tournament. As it turns out, the Eagles garnered the third seed in the tournament, matching them up with second-seeded Colgate in the semifinals. Bucknell, the tournament's fourth seed, will face host Holy Cross in the other semifinal.
The Eagles are currently 5-11 overall, 3-3 in conference play after losing to Bucknell earlier on Saturday 14-5. 2006 marks the fifth straight year that the Eagles have made it to the conference tournament, with the Eagles winning it all in 2003.
American will have one final non-conference tune-up, when they travel to play Longwood in Farmville, Va. on Monday afternoon. The Lancers and Eagles are set begin at 4 p.m.
