Women's Lacrosse Heads to Holy Cross for battle of PL Unbeatens

WASHINGTON - American University women's lacrosse enter Saturday's match-up against first place and defending champion Holy Cross on a four game win streak, leading to a 5-4 overall record and 1-0 in Patriot League play.

The four game win streak is the largest for AU lacrosse in four seasons, dating back to the 2003 season, which proved to be historic for the Eagles. After opening Patriot League play with a win over Colgate, similar to the 2007 season, AU went on to capture its first ever Patriot League Lacrosse Crown, advancing to the first round of the NCAA tournament.

American is led by junior Jackie Lane's (North Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge) 30 points, coming off 22 goals and eight assists. Captain Lauren Aksionoff (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) is right on her toes with 16 goals and a team-high 11 assists, good for 27 points. On the defensive end, Brittany Finnegan (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) leads the squad with 25 groundballs and 18 caused turnovers. Goalkeeper Kristine Vida (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) leads the Patriot League in saves, with 12.78 per game.

The last time out for Holy Cross, Brown snapped the Crusader's five game win streak with a 9-8 victory. Holy Cross opened league play with a 17-6 victory at Lafayette and is 1-0 in the conference. The Crusaders are led by Patricia Sutton who has 42 points on the season, combining a Patriot League high 31 goals with 11 assists.

The all-time series between American University and Holy Cross is split 3-3, with American earning its last win in the 2004 season.
