WASHINGTON - American University's Caitlin Bell (Flourtown, Pa./Springfield) has been named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week, league officials announced on Tuesday.

Bell picked up the honors for the first time this season for her performance against Virginia Tech on Sunday. The junior defender recorded a game-high three caused turnovers and also picked up two groundballs in the 17-8 loss to the Hokies. The Flourtown, Pa., native was dangerous on the attack as well, registering her first assist of the season.

Bell has two points on the season, coming off one goal and one assist, scoring earlier this season against Old Dominion University. Overall, Bell has picked up 12 groundballs and forced six turnovers with her strong defending in the team's six games.

Bell, a three-year starter for the Eagles, was named First Team All-Patriot League in the 2006 season. American University is 2-4 in the 2007 season and return to action on Thursday at 1 p.m. at Fairfield University. Keep up-to-date with AUEagles.com for the results.
