Kendall Goldblum catches a low pass

WASHINGTON – American University tries to put back-to-back victories together on Wednesday when it hosts Howard University in a non-conference women's lacrosse match beginning at 3 p.m. at the Jacobs Complex.

The game is a makeup of a matchup postponed by weather from Feb. 20. The Eagles come into Wednesday's game with a 2-3 record and are coming off a 21-3 triumph over Presbyterian College.

THE SERIES

American owns the victory in the lone matchup in the series with the Bison, having won 19-8 last season.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES

Sophomores Kendall Goldblum and Emma Vinall had matching stat lines of five goals, three assists and eight points on Saturday as American beat Presbyterian, 21-3, at Jacobs Complex.

The offensive outburst marked the first time AU scored 20 points in a game since a 20-9 win at home against VCU on Feb. 7, 2015.

Goldblum (19 points, 14 goals) and Vinall (18 points, 15 goals) have moved to the top of the Eagles' scoring chart. Vinall has scored 15 goals on just 22 shots (.682) and is 5-for-5 from the free-position arc.

Izabella Jade also had a hat trick against the Blue Hose on Saturday.

Fiona Geier started in goal for AU against Presbyterian, leading four goalkeepers who played for the Eagles.  The senior has a 10.35 goals-against average and leads AU with 35 saves.

American is 1-2 at home this season, a mark that includes a tight, 9-8, overtime loss to UMBC in the season-opener.

SCOUTING THE BISON

Howard dropped its season-opener at Bucknell, 23-0 on Feb. 27. Bucknell ended up with a 31-9 edge in shots and Howard fell victim to 20 turnovers.

Sophomore midfielder Jillian Jones led Howard with four shots, while sophomore Lailah Robey added three.

Jones is the leading returning scorer for Howard, having scored 13 points a year ago. Robey had nine points and a team-best five assists last year.

Howard plays in the Atlantic Sun Conference in women's lacrosse.
