Milestones Highlight Final Game of 2018 for @AU_Lacrosse

The AU lacrosse team lines up for the National Anthem before they face Central Michigan

WASHINGTON - The American University women's lacrosse team closed out its 2018 campaign on Saturday with a 13-9 loss to Lehigh. The game also served as the team's senior day celebration, as the Eagles bid farewell to four of its members - Sam Breeze, Leah Brennan, Jennifer DeSimone and Lexi Perez.

American closes the year with an overall record of 3-14, 0-9 in the Patriot League, while Lehigh moves into the Patriot League tournament with a 12-5 overall record, 7-2 in the league.

A pair of milestone performances highlighted the day for the Eagles, starting with a new single-season program record for sophomore Erica Skowron, who contributed a team-high three assists to bring her total up to 25 for the season. This surpasses the previous AU record of 24, held by Olivia Mangan since 2016. Skowron came into the game with a pair of single-game program records already under her belt after her 11 points and six assists against Howard earlier this season.

Junior Fiona Geier also closed the season with a memorable performance, breaking the 400-save barrier with 12 against the Mountain Hawks. She now owns 405 in her three-years as an Eagle.

Leah Brennan helped lead the Eagles with a pair of goals during her senior day performance. She was joined by sophomore Casey Harkins at the top of AU's scoresheet, followed by senior Lexi Perez, sophomores Izabella Jade and Amanda Medjid, and freshman Emma Vinall and Kendall Goldblum with one each. Brennan also brought down a team-high five draw controls while Geier picked up a team-high three ground balls.

The Mountain Hawks were led by a four-goal effort from Sondra Dickey, followed by three from Autumn Ryan. Alexandra Ladda picked up a game-high four ground balls while Kayleen Kelly led the field with six draw controls.

Samantha Sagi led the team in goal with five saves.

The Eagles dominated the first half, leading the Mountain Hawks for over 20 minutes after hitting a 5-0 run with goals from Vinall, Harkins, Brennan, and Perez. Lehigh netted a pair to land back within one, but a last-minute goal from Brennan brought the score back up to 6-4 heading into the break.

American was unable to maintain the momentum in the second half, though, as Lehigh controlled the tempo to retake the lead at 7-6 with 22 minutes left on the clock. Back-to-back goals from Jade and Medjid gave the advantage back to the Eagles before a 6-1 run from the Mountain Hawks in the final 15 minutes closed the game with the four-goal difference at 13-9.
