Lacrosse Heads to Boston University for Season Finale

WASHINGTON - The American University lacrosse team will close its 2017 schedule this weekend with a trip to Boston University on Saturday, April 29.  First draw between the Eagles and the Terriers will be at 1 p.m. at Nickerson Field.

AU is 3-12 overall for 2017, 1-7 in the Patriot League, after falling in a late heartbreaker to Holy Cross on Saturday, April 22.  Boston enters the final round of regular season play tied with Lafayette for fourth in the conference with an overall record of 8-7 and a league record of 5-3.

American will hunt for its first win over the Terriers on Saturday, as BU leads the young series, 3-0.

American closed its home schedule on Saturday with a tough battle against Holy Cross, going back-and-forth against the Crusaders before eventually falling, 12-10.  Freshman Amanda Medjid led the Eagles with her first hat trick of her collegiate career, putting away all three goals in the final 20 minutes of the second half.  Medjid also led the team with the only two assists for the day, good for a career-high five points.

Freshman Erica Skowron contributed another pair of goals, along with junior Jennifer DeSimone and senior Shauna Norris, while senior Madison Hoon put away one.

Sophomore Sam Breeze led the team with a season-high six ground balls while Hoon, senior Sarah Bootman and junior Lexi Perez shared draw control duties with two each.

DeSimone leads the team's offensive efforts with 42 points so far this season, and sits just one goal away from a career-best with 39 total after 15 games, along with three assists.

A pair of seniors closes out the top-three scoring positions for AU starting with Bootman's career-high 33 points (20 goals, 13 assists), followed by Hoon who tied her career-high with 25 points (19 goals, six assists).

Hoon leads the team on the defensive end with 24 caused turnovers and 38 ground balls along with 51 draw controls.

Sophomore goalkeeper Fiona Geier leads the team in the cage with 137 saves this season and a .435 save percentage.

Boston is coming off a non-conference victory on Wednesday, April 26, after the Terriers beat New Hampshire, 16-11.  Freshman Kailey Conry and senior Caroline Meegan led the team with a pair of record-setting days.  Conry hit a new career-high 11 points (three goals, eight assists), good for the highest single-game point tally for a Patriot League player yet this season.

Meegan, on the other hand, led the team in the cage with 17 saves, to bring her season tally up to 191 - a new career and BU single-season record.  Meegan currently leads the NCAA with 12.72 saves per game and ranks sixth in the NCAA, No. 1 in the PL rankings, with a .512 save percentage.

Conry leads the team with 59 points (12 goals, 47 assists) for the season, followed by senior Taylor Hardison with 44 points (20 goals, 24 assists) and junior Mickenzie Larivee with 37 points (36 goals, one assist).  

Sophomore Kelly Mathews has collected a team-high 35 draw controls while Meegan leads the team with 28 ground balls and senior Talley Perkins holds a team-high 19 caused turnovers.
