Lacrosse Hosts Bucknell for Annual LAX Blowout

WASHINGTON - The American University lacrosse team will start a two-game homestand on Saturday, April 8, with a 1 p.m. draw against Bucknell.

The Eagles are still on the hunt for their first Patriot League victory of the season, as they enter the weekend matchup with a 0-4 league record, 2-9 overall.  Bucknell is 2-2 in the conference with wins against Army and Holy Cross, and 7-4 for the season.

THE SERIES
Since the teams first met in 1994, the Eagles have built a 15-7 record against the Bison.  AU fell to Bucknell, 12-8, in Lewisburg, Pa., last season, but have won nine of the last ten home games against the Bison, including a 16-6 victory in 2015.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES
American is coming off a 20-9 road loss to Lafayette on Saturday, April 1.  The Eagles were led by junior Jennifer DeSimone, who tallied her sixth hat trick of the season with a team-high three-goal effort.  Four other Eagles contributed to AU's final score, including two goals from seniors Madison Hoon and Sarah Bootman, and one goal each from senior Shauna Norris and freshman Amanda Medjid.

Hoon and Bootman both tied their career-highs against the Leopards with Hoon leading the team in ground balls (four) and Bootman bringing down three draw controls.  Sophomore Sam Breeze also made a big impact with a career-high, and game-high, four caused turnovers.

DeSimone leads the overall scoring efforts for the Eagles with 29 goals for the season, averaging 2.6 per game with a .509 shooting percentage.

Hoon (13 goals, six assists) and Bootman (12 goals, seven assists) both follow with 19 points each, followed by a pair of freshmen with Erica Skowron (10 goals, six assists) and Caitlin Schaefer (nine goals, three assists).

Hoon leads the team on the defensive end with 19 caused turnovers so far this season and 28 ground balls.  She also holds a team-high 39 draw controls.

Sophomore goalkeeper Fiona Geier holds a .432 save percentage with a 14.32 goals against average and 102 total saves this season.

The Eagles are second in the league with .366 shooting percentage and 10.0 saves per game.  They average 7.73 goals per game.

SCOUTING BUCKNELL
Bucknell clinched its second conference win of the season on Saturday with an 11-8 win over Holy Cross.  Sophomore Audrey Walsh led the team with three goals, followed by two-goal efforts from senior Maddy Molinari, junior Sarah Galzerano and senior Courtney Burke.  

Walsh (20 goals, 17 assists) leads the team alongside senior Christina Manis (nine goals, 28 assists) with 37 points so far this season, followed by Molinari with 31 points (28 goals, three assists).  Manis' 2.55 assists per game have her ranked second in the Patriot League and sixth in NCAA Division I.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jamie DeWitt leads the team with 24 ground balls, followed by junior Mary Margaret Kenney and senior Annie Gilbertson with 22 each.  Molinari leads the team from the center circle with 56 draw controls.

DeWitt currently holds a 10.02 goals against average with a .436 saves percentage.

Bucknell leads the league with a .456 shooting percentage, averaging 10.4 goals per game while holding opponents to 9.8 per game.  

LAX BLOWOUT
Saturday's game also marks the team's annual "LAX Blowout District Day", where AU students will be treated to a free pre-game fan fest with Domino's pizza, Robeks smoothies and Coca-Cola products while supplies last.  The event will take place near the beach volleyball pit adjacent to Jacobs Field.
