WASHINGTON - The American University lacrosse team is on the road this weekend for the first of a two-game stretch, heading to the University of Richmond on Saturday for a noon draw against the Spiders.
The Eagles enter the game with an 0-4 record so far this season after falling to Drexel on Saturday, Feb. 25, 14-3. The Spiders are 2-1 after topping Old Dominion at home on Wednesday, 11-8.
American is 2-22 against Richmond heading into Saturday contest. The Eagles fell to the Spiders during the 2016 double-overtime thriller, 12-11.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
Junior Jennifer DeSimone continues to lead AU's offensive efforts with a team-high nine points for the season, all off of goals. Senior Madison Hoon is next for the Eagles with six points after tallying five goals and an assist during the first four games of the 2017 campaign. Senior Sarah Bootman leads the team with three assists which.
Hoon also leads the Eagles in the center circle, pulling down 20 draw controls. Defensively, Hoon has consistently thrown a wrench in the Eagles' opponents offensive efforts, causing a team-high 12 turnovers while only giving up four herself.
Sophomore Fiona Geier continues to put up big minutes in the cage, averaging 8.5 saves per game (.430). Freshman Anastasia Freda has also seen time between the pipes, tallying a pair of saves in her own right during her three games.
SCOUTING THE SPIDERS
Richmond is led by Kim Egizi, who has tallied 14 points so far this season with six goals and eight assists. Natalia Chaney is the primary scorer for the team, clinching 13 goals in their first three games of the season.
Egizi also leads the team with 18 draw controls, followed closely by the 15 from Caroline Queally. Megan Gianforte is the sole goalkeeper for Richmond and has tallied 32 saves while holding a 10.0 goal against average.
