WASHINGTON - Near-misses haunted the American University lacrosse team on Saturday, Feb. 25, as the Eagles fell to Drexel at home, 14-3.
AU now sits at 0-4 for the season while the Dragons rise to 2-1.
The Dragons went on an early scoring run, hitting their first three goals within the first ten minutes before junior Jennifer DeSimone was able to respond with an unassisted shot, tallying her first of two points for the day.
Drexel went on a four-goal run to close the half at 7-1, then tallied another set of early goals in the second before DeSimone netted her second off of a free position shot nine-minutes into the half. Sophomore Kimmy Comito was the only other Eagle to put away a goal, and closed out AU's scoring in the final three minutes of play.
Another pair of runs by Drexel during the second half stretched their lead, including a pair of last-minute goals to close the game.
Senior Madison Hoon led with three draw controls and three ground balls for the Eagles.
AU will be on the road for the next two weeks, traveling to Richmond on March 4 and Old Dominion on March 11. For the latest on AU Women's Lacrosse, stay tuned to AUEagles.com and follow the team on Twitter @AU_Lacrosse.
