WASHINGTON - The American University lacrosse team is back in action this weekend, hitting the road for its first away game of the 2017 season. The Eagles will match up against Saint Joseph's at noon on Saturday.
The Eagles are 0-1 for the season after falling in their home opener against No. 20 Johns Hopkins on Wednesday, Feb. 15. This will be the season debut for SJU.
American leads the nine-game series against the Hawks, 7-2, after winning last year's contest, 15-12.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
Junior Jennifer DeSimone led the Eagles' scoring efforts during the 18-6 loss against the Blue Jays on Wednesday. She put away two free position goals and one off of an assist from freshman Amanda Medjid to tally three points for the day.
Seniors Madison Hoon and Sarah Bootman also contributed to AU's final tally, along with freshman Caitlin Schaefer who scored her first goal as an Eagle off of an assist from Hoon at the 20:45 mark in the second half.
SCOUTING THE HAWKS
This will be the season debut for the Hawks, who return 19 players from last year's squad, including 2016 Rookie of the Year Rebecca Lane, First Team attacker Nora McCallion, First Team midfielder Maggie Egan, and All-Rookie midfielder Hayley Sabol. Saint Joseph's closed last season at the Atlantic 10 Championship semifinals, where they fell to Massachusetts, 13-8.
The Hawks were predicted to finish third in the conference this year during the preseason poll.
