WASHINGTON – Senior captain Olivia Mangan led American University with two goals and an assist, but Colgate got a pair of goals each from Lauren Gorajek and Natalie Washuta as the Raiders took an 8-4 win over the Eagles in a Patriot League women's lacrosse match Saturday.
Sophomore Jennifer DeSimone added a goal and an assist for AU, which fell to 3-8 overall and 0-3 in PL action.
Kallan Murray had a goal and two assists for Colgate, which won its first PL match of the season and improved to 2-5 overall. Isabel Kreitler and Haley O'Hanlon had two-point games for the Raiders.
Colgate held a 3-0 lead at halftime, but the Eagles came storming back early in the second half. Goals by DeSimone, senior captain Jessica Wojciechowski and Mangan tied the match in the opening 4:38 of the second half.
Washuta scored a pair of goals in a three-score run that put the Raiders back ahead 6-3 with 9:17 to play.
Mangan brought the Eagles back within two with 5:51 left, but Colgate scored twice in the final 25 seconds to ice the win.
Colgate goalkeeper Asil Asfour had seven saves, while freshman Fiona Geier had four for the Eagles. The shots were even in the game at 18 apiece.
American plays at Lehigh next Saturday and returns home on Saturday, April 2, against Lafayette.
