WASHINGTON – Looking for its first win of the season, the American University lacrosse team hosts Saint Joseph's in a non-conference contest on Saturday, Feb. 20, at 1 p.m.
American leads the all-time series against Saint Joseph's, 6-2, but the Hawks prevailed in the last meeting, a 13-12 triple-overtime contest last season.
The Eagles enter the game with an 0-2 record on the season. American is coming off a hard-fought 16-10 road loss to 15th-ranked Johns Hopkins.
Sophomore Jennifer DeSimone tallied a career-high four goals to lead the Eagles against the Blue Jays, while senior captains Olivia Mangan and Jessica Wojciechowski each added two goals and an assist. Meanwhile, freshman goalkeeper Fiona Geier registered a personal-best nine saves versus Johns Hopkins.
For the season, DeSimone leads AU's offense with five goals, while Mangan has registered three goals and an assist.
This weekend's game is the first of the season for Saint Joseph's, which compiled a 5-11 overall record in 2015. The Hawks return 18 letterwinners, including nine starters from last season.
Two of Saint Joseph's top three scorers from 2015 return to the field this year in juniors Sarah Smith (24g, 10a) and Nora McCallion (16g, 8a). Meanwhile, senior Genevieve Giblin returns between the pipes for the Hawks.
