AU Lacrosse Hosts Local Rival UMBC on Wednesday

WASHINGTON – The American University lacrosse team plays its first home game of the regular season on Wednesday, Feb. 25, hosting UMBC at 3 p.m.

The Eagles enter this week's game with a 1-2 record after dropping a 5-4 road decision to Richmond on Saturday. It marked American's second straight loss by a single goal.

Sophomore Madison Hoon led AU's offense against the Spiders with her third hat trick of the year, while freshman goalkeeper Rose Redfoot registered 10 saves and two ground balls. For her performance, Redfoot was tabbed the Patriot League Rookie of the Week.

For the season, Hoon leads the Eagles with 11 total goals, while junior Olivia Mangan has registered four goals and a team-best seven assists. Mangan currently leads the Patriot League in assists per game (2.33), while Hoon is second in goals per game.

UMBC brings a 1-2 record into Wednesday's contest after earning a 5-4 victory over Mount St. Mary's on Saturday. All three of UMBC's games this season have been decided by a single goal.

Abby Wilson has scored six goals to lead the Retrievers' offense this season, while Sam Nolan has added two goals and four assists. Meanwhile, Kelly Gielner and Kelsey Major have split time in the cage for UMBC.
