The American University lacrosse team will look for its first win of the season when it travels to Richmond on Wednesday, February 27 at 4 p.m.
American (0-3) fought back from a five-goal deficit in the first half of Sunday's game against High Point, tying it early in the second half. But the Eagles were unable to take the lead as a rally by the Panthers secured the 13-11 victory for High Point. Emily Burton, Nicole Lombardo and Emily Maher scored two goals apiece for American.
Kimberly Collins has posted a team-high eight goals this season while Maher and Samantha Marshall have notched four assists apiece. Maher also leads American with 13 draw controls and eight ground balls collected. Teal Harrison has registered 20 saves as the starting goalkeeper.
Richmond (0-4) enters Wednesday's contest after a 13-7 loss to No. 8 Virginia last week. Caitlin Fifield, Sam Stevenson and Jennifer Zoltoski each scored two goals in the game. Emily Boyce registered 13 saves between the pipes for the Spiders.
Stevenson leads the team with 15 points this season on 10 goals and five assists, with Fifield also adding five assists. Boyce has registered a 17.23 goals against average to open the year.
