Campbell Adds Eight for 2013 Season

The American University lacrosse team has announced that eight new players will join the Eagles’ squad for the 2013 season.

"I'm looking forward to the athleticism this class will bring to the field for us,” said Head Coach Laura Campbell. “Additionally, they will add much needed depth to our team as I expect immediate impacts and contributions all over the field by these rookies.”

The Eagles have added two new attackers, Olivia McCarthy and Terese Buechli, who will also lend support at the midfield. McCarthy joins the Eagles after spending one season at Iona College where she tallied three goals on the year. The Duxbury, Mass. native helped her high school team win the conference championship and advance to the MIAA State Tournament during all four years of high school. Buechli was a three-time First Team All-County and All-Section honoree. The West Nyack, N.Y. native was also a four-time All-League and two-time All-Hudson Valley selection.

Three of the Eagles’ freshman will play in the midfield, Olivia Mangan, Julie McKay and Jessica Wojciechowski. Mangan tallied 79 goals her senior year and led the team in draw controls and ground balls collected her last two seasons. The Maplewood, N.J. native was a First Team All-Conference and First Team All-League selection in her junior and senior year and was selected to the North New Jersey Team 1 for the Women’s Division National Tournament in 2011. McKay hails from Maple Glen, Pa. where she was a two-time First Team All-League and two-time Second Team All-League selection in the midfield. Wojciechowski was recognized as First Team Baltimore All-Country and All-Division in 2011 and 2012 and was also named to the Baltimore County All-Star Team in 2012. The Monkton, Md. native led her high school team to the 2010 Baltimore County Championship and 2012 regional state playoff finals. She led the team in points and assists during her senior year.

Campbell has also added two players to the defensive unit, Jillian Fumai and Savannah Bentley. Fumai, a native of Huntington, N.Y., helped her team win the NY A CHSAA league championship and finish with an undefeated season in 2012. Bentley received First Team All-District and First Team All-Region honors in 2011 and 2012. The Vienna, Va. native led her team to the district, regional and state championships in 2011 and district championship in 2012. She was also an Washington Post All-Met Honorable Mention in her senior year.

The final new addition for the Eagles’ will be goalkeeper Teal Harrison. Harrison was a two-time Central Catholic League All-League award winner and two-time Central Independent League All-League award winner.
