E. Maher Matches Single Season Draw Control Record as Lacrosse Falls at Navy

Emily Maher matched the single season record at American for draw controls, but it was not enough as the American University lacrosse team fell to the Navy Midshipmen, 19-6, on Friday night.

E. Maher recorded a team-high three draw controls to put her season total at 51, matching the record set by Gina Riitano in 2003.

Kimberly Collins and Lauren Schoenberger led the Eagles with two goals apiece in the game with Laura Dawson collecting a team-high four ground balls. Kaska Komosinski tallied eight saves in the loss.

American (7-7, 3-3) found the back of the net first with a goal from Collins just 38 seconds into the game, but Navy answered right away to tie it at one apiece. Schoenberger and Emily Burton netted equalizers after Navy scores, and another tally from Schoenberger gave American the 4-3 advantage at 19:42.

The Midshipmen answered with a 4-0 run before E. Maher added an unassisted goal to cut the lead to 7-5 at 8:06. But Navy closed out the half with back-to-back goals to take a 9-5 lead into the break.

Navy (14-2, 5-0) opened the second half with nine consecutive goals to take an 18-5 lead at 12:28. Collins ended the run with a free position goal at 10:30 but the Midshipmen added one more to close out the scoring for the 19-6 final score.

Loren Generi led Navy with seven goals in the game as the Midshipmen held the 17-10 advantage in draw controls and 20-16 advantage in ground balls collected.

American finished the season with a 3-3 mark in Patriot League play and will learn its tournament fate when conference play concludes next weekend.

The Eagles will close out the season with back-to-back non-conference road games and will first take on UMBC on Tuesday, April 17 at 7 p.m. before traveling to No. 10 Ohio State on Saturday, April 21 at 1 p.m.
