Women’s Lacrosse Hosts Davidson Sunday; AU’s Five Seniors to Be Honored

The American University's lacrosse team will host Davidson on Sunday at 1 p.m. in its final home regular game of the season. Prior to the game, AU's five women's lacrosse student-athletes will be honored in the annual Senior Day festivities.

American (5-9, 3-2 PL) is looking to pick up its third non-conference win of the season, and build momentum heading into its regular season finale, which will be played at Patriot League rival Holy Cross on Saturday, April 24.

The Eagles are led offensively by senior Amanda Makoid, who has scored 29 goals and recorded 37 points on the season, both of which are team-highs. She has registered 10 goals in her last three contests, and has eight multi-goal games this season.

Sophomore Lauren Schoenberger  is second on the team in points (36) and goals (22), while Chiara Speziale has made an impact as a freshman with 18 goals, and has been named Patriot League Rookie of the Week twice this season.

On the defensive end, sophomore Emma Larkin leads the team in caused turnovers (23) and ground balls (31). Sophomore Emily Stankiewicz has collected 30 ground balls, and leads the squad with 35 draw controls. She is also third on the team with 16 goals on the season.

Davidson comes into Sunday's matchup with a 6-7 record, although the Wildcats have a 4-1 mark in the National Lacrosse Conference. Jen Crawford leads Davidson with a team-high 34 goals on the season.

Prior to the game, American's five senior student-athletes – Maeve Koch, Makoid, Alyssa Romano, Lisa Schaaf and Frankie Solomon -- will be honored. The 2010 senior class has led the Eagles to 25 wins over the past three-plus seasons, including the 2008 Patriot League Regular Season Championship.

Additionally, during halftime of Sunday's tilt, the winner of the Phil Bender World Tour will be announced with the winner receiving a brand-new Dell laptop. The Phil Bender World Tour is a year-long contest for AU students to attend as many home athletics events as possible.

Sunday's game will be broadcast live on Eagles Vision TV, part of AUeagles.com. The broadcast, including the pregame Senior Day ceremony, will feature multiple camera angles, a live scoreboard and analysis.
