Women’s Lacrosse Looks for Third Straight Conference Win Saturday vs. Lafayette

The American University women’s lacrosse team will host the Lafayette Leopards at 1:00 p.m. at Jacobs Field on Saturday, April 3. The game will be the finale of a three-game homestand for the Eagles as they look to build on their Patriot League momentum with a third consecutive conference victory.

American (4-7, 2-1 PL) enters the game fresh off a thrilling 17-16 win over previously-undefeated Lehigh. Emily Stankiewicz led the Eagles with a career-high four goals and a team-high four draw controls and three groundballs. For her efforts, she was selected as the American University Student-Athlete of the Week, Presented by GEICO. Chiara Speziale’s three goals were also a career-best, earning her the Patriot League Rookie of the Week award for the second time this season.

On defense, Emma Larkin caused four turnovers and collected three groundballs in addition to two draw controls and a goal. Goalkeepers Kaska Komosinski and Frankie Solomon each recorded three saves for the Eagles in the win.

On the season, sophomore Lauren Schoenberger has accumulated a team-leading 28 points on 15 goals and 13 assists. Larkin leads the squad with 14 caused turnovers, and Stankiewicz has collected a team-high 24 groundballs.  

Lafayette (2-9, 1-2 PL) will travel to American also having built up some midseason momentum. The Leopards have put together a two-game win streak with wins over Bucknell and Manhattan, and will look to continue their solid play. In an impressive start to her Lafayette career, freshman Addie Godfrey has registered 21 goals and three assists to lead the Leopards’ offense. Defensively, Cammie Linville and Lauren Brown have each tallied double-digit caused turnovers, and senior goalkeeper Emily Bjork has made 110 saves on the season for the Leopards.
