WASHINGTON - American University women's field hockey player Camila Infante (Santiago, Chile/Santiago College) has been named the Patriot League Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week, league officials announced Monday.
Infante earned the award after leading AU to a 4-1 victory over Holy Cross, registering two goals on the day. After being up by one with 30 minutes to go, Infante netted back to back goals to extend American's lead to three. Infante weaved through several defenders and with a backhanded, diving shot she tallied her eighth goal of the season. Still on fire, Infante did it again just under 16 minutes later.
Infante is third on the team in points, tallying 22 with nine goals and four assists.
Although this is her first Player of the Week award in 2006, Infante has been a recipient of the award numerous times in her past three seasons. Infante was also named Patriot League Rookie of the Year in 2003, and PL Offensive Player of the Year in 2004 and 2005.
The Eagles' have remained undefeated in Patriot League play since the 2003 season, currently on a 27 PL win streak. They just finished out the 2006 regular season in first place, sporting a 5-0 record. By defeating Holy Cross on Oct. 28, AU clinched home field advantage for the conference tournament.
American University returns to action on Nov. 4 when they host Bucknell in the Patriot League semifinals at 11 a.m. at the William I Jacobs Recreational Complex.
