WASHINGTON - Despite leading 15-10 in the shot margin, No. 11 American University was defeated by University at Albany 1-0 on the road on Sunday afternoon.
After a scoreless first half, where both teams combined for just nine shots, sophomore midfielder Vanessa Walter put the Great Danes in the book, notching the lone goal of the game. Just under 25 minutes remaining in the final stanza, Walter found the net off the rebound, scoring her first game-winner of the season.
For the first time in the 2006 season, AU was held scoreless, despite its 15 shots, with 10 attempts being on goal. Albany's Ashley Ross registered 10 saves for the day, with Allison Fayfich tallying five for the Eagles.
The Great Danes issued American's fourth loss of the season, the most the Eagles' have seen since the 2003 season, where AU finished 17-4-0.
American University will look for their ninth win of the season and to remain undefeated in the Patriot League when they host Bucknell on Saturday at 12 p.m.
