CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – American University field hockey junior Noor Coenen headlined the Patriot League field hockey preseason awards as the Eagles' third consecutive Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, the league office released on Tuesday.

This is Coenen's first Preseason PL Player of the Year selection after 2019 graduate Rafaela Rubas won the award the last two years. AU led the PL with three Preseason All-League Team members as Coenen was joined by senior Jette Dieckmann and sophomore Georgia Davies.

The Eagles were predicted to finish second in the league by the conference's head coaches and sports information directors. Defending champion Boston University led the preseason poll with 70 points and 10 first-place votes followed by AU with 64 points and four first-place votes. Lafayette (50 points), Bucknell (44), Lehigh (30), Holy Cross (22), and Colgate (14) rounded out the poll.

Coenen capped off a successful sophomore campaign with a second-consecutive NFHCA (National Field Hockey Coaches Association) All-Mid-Atlantic Region and First Team All-Patriot League selections. The 2017 PL Rookie of the Year leads the returners with her 24 points from 2018 after she scored a team-high nine goals and pitched in six assists.

Dieckmann returns for her final season in the red, white, and blue after starting all 18 games last year. The midfielder from Hamburg, Germany, ranked fifth on the team with 12 points (4g, 4a).

Davies made an immediate impact on the Eagles during her debut season, starting all 18 games and earning 13 points (4g, 5a) to rank fourth on the team. Her and Dieckmann were both selected to the NFHCA National Academic Squad.

The Eagles return five starters from the 2018 team that closed the season with an overall record of 9-9 (4-2 PL) and the program's 13th Patriot League Championship appearance. AU closed the regular season second in the league behind the Terriers, who eventually defeated the Eagles for the PL title, 2-1.

American will kick off its hunt for the program's 11th Patriot League title and NCAA Tournament berth at home at Jacobs Complex on Friday, August 30, with a 3 p.m. start against New Hampshire.
