WASHINGTON – American University field hockey senior Maura Jacobs will take to the field one more time as she was among the 38 student-athletes from across the country selected to the 2018 Victory Sports Tours/NFHCA Division I Senior Game.
Annually, the Victory Sports Tours/NFHCA Division I Senior Game features top senior players in the nation. Selected seniors are given the opportunity to represent their institution while competing against their peers. This year, the Division I Senior Game will take place in conjunction with the NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship in Louisville, Kentucky. The game will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 16, following the conclusion of the NCAA semifinal games at the University of Louisville's Trager Stadium.
Jacobs closed her AU career as one of the top goalkeepers in the Patriot League, earning the 2018 Patriot League Field Hockey Goalkeeper of the Year and two consecutive Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards as a junior and senior.
One of the most successful keepers in program history, the New Cumberland, Pa., native broke the 200-save milestone in the regular-season finale against No. 4 UConn and closed her career with 214 saves, a 1.63 goals against average and .702 save percentage.
Jacobs is the 16th player in program history to be selected to the Senior Game and the third consecutive after Samantha McCormick and Natalie Konerth were chosen in 2017 and 2016, respectively.
"We are so happy that Maura's hard work, dedication, and skill is being recognized with this wonderful honor," head coach Steve Jennings said. "The Senior All-Star Game is an amazing event and will serve as the icing on the cake for Maura's incredible career. We are so proud of her and look forward to her representing AU on the field one more time with great distinction."
