WASHINGTON - Freshman Noor Coenen was selected as the Patriot League Corvias Rookie of the Week for the third time this season, topping off what turned into an exciting weekend for the young midfielder. The Naarden, Netherlands, native led the American University field hockey team with four goals during the 7-1 win over Brown on Sunday, good for a new career-record and the top scoring slot on the team. She also tallied an assist during the team's 2-1 loss to PL rival Boston University on Saturday.
Coenen now takes over as the No. 1 goal-scorer in the league with 12 in her debut season. She also ties with Holy Cross senior Maureen Connolly for the top slot in the league for points with 27 total.
Her .857 goals per game and 1.93 points per game average also puts her within the top five of freshmen, top 25 individuals total, in the current NCAA Division I rankings.
Coenen has been a fairly consistent presence in the PL's weekly awards, having now been selected three times this season. As a team, AU has had at least one player recognized on all but one of the league's weekly releases.
The Eagles will be back on the road next week with an 11 a.m. start at Colgate on Saturday, Oct. 14. The team will then return home for Senior Day and Alumnae Day on Saturday, Oct. 21, where they will have a noon showdown against Lafayette.
