WASHINGTON – Her second hat trick of the season sparked the American University field hockey team to a 6-1 victory over Colgate last Saturday and earned Natalie Konerth the honor of her second GEICO Student-Athlete of the Week Award.
Konerth, a senior forward from Huntingtown, Md., was also named the Corvias Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week.
In five Patriot League matches this season, Konerth now has eight goals and 16 points. She leads the Eagles in scoring with 25 points and a dozen goals in all matches this year.
With 73 points for her career, Konerth has moved into 17th on AU's all-time list.
American is now 11-5 overall this season and was ranked 20th in the nation in the most recent poll by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association. Four of the Eagles' five losses this year have come to nationally ranked teams.
At 5-0 in the Patriot League, the Eagles have clinched at least a tie for the regular-season title. Boston University, ranked 14th nationally this week, is 4-1 after beating Holy Cross Tuesday in the completion of a suspended game.
BU comes to Jacobs Field this Saturday with a chance to tie American for first place in the regular season. The winner of the match will earn home-field advantage for the Patriot League Tournament, to be played Nov. 4 and 6.
Saturday's match, which includes Senior Day tributes for the Eagles, begins at noon.
