WASHINGTON, D.C. – Kathryn Roncoroni scored American University's lone goal of the match, but Liberty's Kendra Jones got the game-winner in overtime as the Lady Flames edged the 20th-ranked Eagles, 2-1, in a non-conference field hockey match Thursday at Jacobs Field.

The Eagles fell to 7-4 overall, while Liberty improved to 4-6. AU was the sixth ranked opponent Liberty has faced this season.
Roncoroni converted a rebound on an initial shot by Grace Parke that was saved by Liberty goalkeeper Allison Schaefer. The goal came with 21:25 gone in the first half.
Exactly two minutes later, Liberty tied the score when Alynn Richardson scored from in front of the net.
The teams played an evenly matched second half, as AU held a 5-4 edge in shots in the second half but failed to convert on four penalty corners.
With 3:59 elapsed in the overtime, Serena Barr found Jones open on the left post for the game-winner.
Liberty had all three shots in overtime to earn an 11-10 edge for the match, while AU had a 6-2 advantage in penalty corners.
Schaefer made six saves for Liberty, while Maura Jacobs finished with four saves in the Eagle cage.
American has another non-conference home match on Sunday when it faces Michigan State at noon.
