Hat Trick Lifts Konerth to GEICO-AU Student-Athlete of the Week

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Natalie Konerth posted American University's first hat trick of the field hockey season last Saturday, earning her selection as the GEICO-AU Student-Athlete of the Week.

Konerth, a senior forward from Huntingtown, Md., was also voted as the Corvias Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week.

She scored three consecutive goals to snap a 1-1 tie at Holy Cross last Saturday in the Eagles' league opener. Two of those came off penalty corners and her scoring streak was part of an eight-goal run that lifted AU to an 8-1 victory.

Konerth's hat trick was the first of the season by a Patriot League student-athlete. She currently leads the 5-2 Eagles in points (15), goals (7) and game-winning goals (3). She has moved into second place in the league in scoring.

The GEICO-AU Student-Athlete of the Week award is the second of her career.
