The American University field hockey team captured the annual AU Team Cup, which was awarded at the 2010 Student-Athlete Banquet on Sunday. Watch Student-Athlete Advisory (SAAC) Secretary Kristin Gebhart present the field hockey team with the award in the following video.
In August 2006, the AU Team Cup was established to provide friendly competition among the 16 varsity athletics teams at American University. During the academic year, student-athletes can earn points for their respective team in six different categories – academic achievements, athletics achievements, personal enhancements, community outreach, SAAC participation, and Eagle pride.
On the field in 2009, the field hockey team captured its seventh straight Patriot League Championship and earned its sixth bid to the NCAA Tournament in the past seven seasons. Additionally, in the classroom, the squad’s 3.50 cumulative grade-point average in the fall semester was the third-highest among Division I field hockey programs.
This is the fourth year of the AU Team Cup, and the first time the field hockey program has won the award.
