Six Women's Basketball Players Earn Patriot League Academic Honors

WASHINGTON - Six American University women's basketball players were named to the 2005 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, league officials announced on Wednesday.

Freshman Katie Hirschler (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights) earned the team's highest grade point average with a 3.70.

Graduated seniors Kim Salem (Oakville, Ontario/St. Thomas Aquinas) and Jenyce Woodruff (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny), junior Tala Hadavi (Uppsala, Sweden/Vasalundsskolan) and sophomores Jessica Tenuta (Fayetteville, N.C./Terry Sandford) and Tara Williams (Newport News, Va./Heritage) were also named to the Academic Honor Roll.

American's six players ranked fourth most in the league. Bucknell and Lehigh tied with nine players a piece, while Holy Cross finished with eight. The eight team league had 44 players earn the award with four players finishing with perfect GPAs of 4.0. Last season, the Eagles had eight players named to the Pl Academic Honor Roll.

Players must have earned at least a 3.2 grade point average and a varsity letter to be eligible for the honor.

The Eagles begin the 2005-06 regular season on Nov 18, 2005 when they travel to Baltimore, Md., to take on Towson University.
