Hadavi and Nusseibeh Named to Patriot League Women's Basketball All-League Teams

Feb. 27, 2006

WASHINGTON - American University senior Tala Hadavi (Uppsala, Sweden/Vasalunsskolan) and freshman Sahar Nusseibeh (Uniontown, Ohio/North Canton Hoover) were named to the Second Team All-Patriot League and Patriot League All-Rookie Team, respectively, league officials announced on Tuesday.

Hadavi was one of the Patriot League's most dangerous scoring threats this season, averaging 14.1 points per game overall and 16.2 points per game in league action, good enough for third among all conference players. Hadavi's 62 three pointers this season ties her first all-time in made three pointers in a single season. The Uppsala, Sweden native registered a career-high 30 points and six rebounds against Lehigh, earning her PL Player of the Week honors. Hadavi finished her career at American with 400 points despite playing in just 30 games as an Eagle due to injuries.

"Tala's outside shooting and her ability to finish on penetration has been on display all season," said head coach Melissa McFerrin. "It says a lot when the league coaches have seen Tala for a mere nine games and vote her to the All-Patriot League team. We will never know for sure just how good she might have been in this league but we do know that she got the league's attention in a very short time."

Nusseibeh was named to the All-Rookie team after leading the team in field goal percentage .500, which also ranks her fifth among all players in the conference. The freshman forward scored in double digits in 10 out of 14 conference games this season, averaging 12.0 points per game. Nusseibeh finished the regular season with three double-doubles, also earning Rookie of the Week honors once.

Freshman Sahar Nusseibeh

"Sahar carried the scoring load for us during Patriot League play along with being an ever-improving contributor on the boards," said McFerrin. "It is not often that you can ask a young player to do that consistently. She is a passionate, competitive and committed player. With her size and touch, we look forward to seeing her progress over the next three seasons."

Army's Cara Enright was voted as Player of the Year, Bucknell's Hope Foster named Defensive Player of the Year, Army's Alex McGuire earned Rookie of the Year Honors and first year head coach Maggie Dixon from Army was named PL Coach of the Year. The Patriot League All-League teams are nominated and voted on by the league's eight head basketball coaches.

American, the seventh seed in this weekend's opening round of the Patriot League Tournament, travels to Worcester, Mass., to take on second seeded Holy Cross on Thurs. March 2. The Crusaders and Eagles tip off at 8 p.m.
